I’ve been less than consistent with my posting lately.  You see, I’m suddenly really busy, and I love that.  The thing is, I don’t want to abandon that which helped me cope with the not so busy times in my past (and I’m sure that this business will not last forever) so here’s what’s going on with me:

Last weekend my parents came to visit for the first time since we moved to Santa Monica.  It was fun…maybe too much fun, actually. Now that they know that I really do live within walking distance of the beach (I think they thought I was exaggerating before) I have a feeling that once it starts getting hot in Phoenix I’m going to have a LOT of house guests.

I still hate my job, but they actually give me some stuff to do, so it doesn’t suck as bad as it once did.

I’m taking a business law class and an accounting class.  Both online.  I’m so happy that they’re online, because, judging by the quality of the writing on the discussion boards, I would be tempted to knock most of these people upside the head every time they opened their mouths in an actual class.  Seriously.  I know this is a low level class, but there is a thing called spell check, people!  Other than the idiots that I (fortunately) never have to meet in real life, online classes are pretty cool.  My only complaint is that I they have everything set up on a particular time line, and it can not be changed!  I just want to take the tests and such during the week so I don’t have to worry about it over the weekend, but NO!  I have to wait until midnight on Saturday each week to log into the tests.  It’s so obnoxious.  I have better things to do on a Sunday!  Oh well…

I’m doing this volunteer thing with the Los Angeles Public Library Adult Literacy program - I’m supposed to be teaching an illiterate adult how to read one or two nights a week.  Unfortunately, they can’t find anyone who wants to be tutored at night or on the weekends, so I am still without a student.  Alas.  (By the way, if you live in LA and are looking for an amazing volunteer opportunity, you should really check it out - it’s a great program, and I’m really excited to be a part of it…even if I don’t have a student of my own yet!)

The boyfriend has been eating gluten for the past two weeks in preparation for a biopsy to test for Celiac’s disease.  The biopsy was on Friday, and I took the afternoon off work to go pick him up at the hospital.  What was supposed to start at noon and be done by four didn’t actually start until five and wasn’t done until eight.  Gotta love hospitals, huh?  I brought my accounting book with me for entertainment, but got bored with that after about, oh, four minutes, so I spent the rest of the time watching Headline News (ugh) and wishing that my phone had even a little reception so I could read tumblr or play Words with Friends, or catch up on Facebook.  Something, anything to keep me entertained.

When he was finally done, he was hysterically dopey, and I drove home making the most hilarious bad jokes for him (which he actually laughed at…after I explained them to him).  First I quoted lines from Better off Dead when we passed a $2 store.  Then, we passed a Hoover repair shop which got me started making bad puns about president’s names.  Trust me, it was funny.  I only wish I hadn’t been driving, because I would have live-blogged the whole thing.  Oh well.  Whatchagonnado?

Yesterday the boyfriend left for Seattle for two weeks of work up there.  I’m bitterly jealous, because, as you may remember, I used to live in Seattle, and all my friends are there and I miss it terribly.  The little butthead even had the nerve to drunk text me from my old bar where he was hanging out with MY friends last night!  He’s such a punk!

So I’m stuck at home with the dogs for the next two weeks, and I’m already bored out of my mind.  I spent all afternoon/evening yesterday sitting like a lump, staring at the television.  I’ve decided to try not to turn the damn thing back on for a few days as punishment.  Clearly I can’t handle the awesomeness that is Netflix on demand when I’m home alone.  Oh sure, I have projects to do - a guitar that I haven’t touched in months, several half finished sewing projects, a cabinet full of yarn that could be knitted into something pretty, dogs that would love to go for walks, a bike that likes to cruise…the possibilities are endless.  Now if I could just get my lazy butt off the couch!

Today is the LA marathon, which ends just a few blocks from my place.  I was going to walk the dogs over there this morning to see the spectacle, but it’s so foggy you can barely see, so I figure I’ll wait until later and see if the fog lifts.  Of course, by then I’ll be in my bored stupor and won’t want to do anything.  Sigh.

So yeah, that pretty much brings us up to date.  How have you been?
