If I can rule out family and friends, it would be the thunderstorms. Sure, I miss all the great Tex-Mex, Whataburger, and wearing shorts in February (excluding 2010 I suppose), but I miss the thunderstorms the most.
I miss watching them come for miles across the flat landscape.
I miss the smell in the air.
I miss the sudden dryness after a humid day.
I miss the sudden cold downdraft.
I miss the tall anvil clouds flashing repeatedly.
I miss the sound of wind chimes as the winds shift.
The first few minutes of a thunderstorm are horrific and wonderful.
This is what I miss most about Kansas, too. This and tornado weather.
This is what I miss most about Arizona (where I grew up). i can call my friends and family on the phone, but you can’t call a thunderstorm!
