From the front of the house to the back of the house and everywhere in between.
Elvis Costello - Alison
#34 on my list of favorite songs of all time (this one dedicated to notveryraven)
The thing that drew me into My Aim Is True was how Costello turned anger into poetry. Every sentence seemed to be written with a poisoned pen but my god, that poison was beautifully crafted.
There are so many early Elvis songs that hit me where my jealous writer lives. I used to read the lyrics over and over again, studying them, wondering how someone is born with the ability to craft words like that, to put together sentences that can rip apart and still sound so poetic.
Alison is the epitome of all that. It’s a musically gorgeous valentine shot with a poison arrow.
This is my favorite song. I just love it.
