Coffee Porn of the Day: The folks at The Pulp & The Bean in Brooklyn are brewing up something extra special. Nine extra, to be exact.

Called the “Dieci” (Italian for 10), the Crown Heights coffeehouse’s newest novelty drink contains 10 shots of espresso. According to owner Tony Fisher, “[i]t’s 20 ounces of just thunder.”

From the NYDN:

“It’s never been done before,” Fisher said. “It just dawned on me that people really love espresso, so why not just give them a cup full of espresso?”

He drinks 10 cups a day of regular coffee yet couldn’t quite make it through a full cup of his concoction in one sitting.

“I drank a third of it. I’m still spinning,” he said.

And that quote is why it’s never been done before. 

I drink a minimum of 4 shots a day + 16oz or so of pour over brew. I have been known to go much higher, so I know I have a problem (work on and off for 12 years in a coffee shop and see if you don’t build up a tolerance). Still, this is just ridiculous. He’s describing a one to one ratio of coffee and milk here.  Just order a nice cortado (or macchiato if you like it stronger, I know I do) and relax. Enjoying espresso does not come requisite with heart palpitations.

When I started working for *$ years ago, I didn’t even like coffee.  When I left the company several years later, I was up to four or five iced triple grande vanilla lattes a day, as well as several cups of iced coffee a day.  It took months to get over the caffeine withdrawal headaches after I quit.  Now, I can’t have more than a taste of coffee without getting wired.  I had a short latte this morning, and my hands are shaky, and I can pretty much guarantee that I won’t sleep very well tonight.  Something broke in my brain. 

It’s a shame, really, because I love coffee.  I just love sleeping more.
